This short two-movement sonata in C Major is well-known among cellists as an excellent performance piece for young players. An extended-range instrument is required if the performer wishes to play the work exactly as written. however, the use of the extended range is minimal, and an experienced performer or young student with assistance of their teacher could easily re-write a few phrases to avoid this range if an extended-range instrument is not available.
